Troyer Yachts Explores Viareggio
In July 2025, Troyer Yachts embarked on an unforgettable journey to Viareggio, Italy, a coastal gem in Tuscany’s Versilia region and a global hub for superyacht manufacturing. This visit, sparked by a connection at the 2025 Palm Beach International Boat Show, offered a deep dive into Italian yachting craftsmanship, Tuscan culture, and world-class cuisine. Here’s a glimpse into the adventure led by Andrew and Beth Troyer, founders of Troyer Yachts.
Arriving in Viareggio: Where Sea Meets Alps
Nestled between the Ligurian Sea and the dramatic Apuan Alps, Viareggio’s seaside charm captivated Andrew and Beth Troyer upon arrival. Their first stop was the Blu Bar Terrace & Restaurant atop the Palace Hotel. With sweeping 180° sea views and the Alps as a backdrop, the terrace offered a perfect introduction to Viareggio’s allure. After a late lunch, they strolled along the seafront promenade, exploring the town’s iconic private beach clubs, known as bagni, where vibrant chair setups line the coastline.
Day Two: Shipyard Exploration
The second day began with a quintessential Italian breakfast at their hotel, featuring cappuccino, smoked salmon, fresh eggs, and delectable apricot tarts. Following breakfast we toured local shipyards. Italy is currently responsible for 50% of the global superyacht manufacturing.
Culinary Highlights: Book Ends Steakhouse and Amaro Ristorante
Lunch at Book Ends Steakhouse, a New York-style venue opened in 2023, was a highlight. Born from a friendship between Tuscan restaurateur Michele Giunta and American yacht owner Robert Book, the restaurant—named after Book’s Heesen yacht—delivers premium T-bone steaks cooked over olive wood. Troyer Yachts previously brokered the sale of Book’s Westport 112 “BOOK ENDS” in 2022, adding a personal connection to the experience. Robert (Bob) Book, has owned 17 yachts named Book Ends over 44 years, starting with a 25-foot Cruisers in the 1970s, followed by models from Bayliner, Sunseeker, and Westport 112 as well as 130, and culminating in two Heesen-built superyachts: a 46.7-meter vessel (2017) and a 50-meter yacht (2022). Each Book Ends, named by his wife Amy, reflects his passion for boating and strategic approach to yacht ownership, often selling within two to three years to maintain value. –Read more about the Westport 112 “BOOK ENDS“-

Dinner at Amaro Braceria near Piazza Mazzini blended Tuscan tradition with modern flair. Known for Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Angus steak, and pistachio tiramisù, Amaro’s cozy ambiance and extensive wine list made it a standout dining destination.
Exploring Viareggio’s Coastal Charm
The Troyers capped their trip with a walk along Viale Regina Margherita, splashing in the Ligurian Sea and soaking in Viareggio’s vibrant atmosphere. The visit deepened their understanding of Italian superyacht manufacturing and enriched their appreciation for Tuscan culture.
